Some Moments Really Do Lift You
There are times when the camera catches more than the eye ever intended… when a shutter click becomes a kind of witness, revealing the softness inside an ordinary moment. On the shore of Hardy Bay, with the tide pulled back and the world stretched wide and quiet, Christine seems to hover just above the earth. Not in any mystical way, but in that subtle, human way a person can appear weightless when they’re fully at ease.
The rock beneath her is ancient and grounded, barnacled and sea‑washed, yet she sits as though the shoreline itself has lifted her slightly, offering her a place to rest above the noise of the day. Her purple hoodie brings a gentle warmth to the cool palette of sand and stone, a small bloom of colour in a landscape shaped by wind and tide. The sky opens behind her: blue, scattered, unhurried; and she becomes part of that openness, part of the calm.
It’s a moment that wasn’t staged, wasn’t sought, wasn’t even noticed until later. But the camera saw it: the serenity, the ease, the way companionship and place can cradle a person so lightly that they seem to float. It’s the kind of photograph that reminds you how much life is carried in the quiet seconds… precious ones that can slip by unnoticed until a lens freezes them and says, Look! This is what peace looks like.
And maybe that’s the gift of this image. Not the illusion of floating, but the truth of it: that even after fifty years of a lifetime shared, some moments really do lift you.
Safe Travels
